About the Center
Delaware Cardiovascular Research Center (DCRC) brings together over 50 researchers, physicians, and educators from Delaware Health Science Alliance (DHSA) member institutions to focus on ways to prevent and treat cardiac, vascular, and blood diseases. These investigators encompass more than 20 specialties: from epidemiology and pharmacology to preventive cardiology and cardiovascular surgery. They tackle cardiovascular problems through basic research, clinical investigation, diagnosis, treatment, and public education. The Center provides a focal point for interdisciplinary research and training as well as state of the art instrumentation and facilities.
Working together, the Center members combine their unique expertise to generate new ideas in order to combat cardiovascular diseases and reduce the time it takes to "translate" new discoveries from bench to the bedside. If you have any questions, please contact us.
Vision
Our vision began with the idea to develop a statewide center at the University of Delaware that focuses on basic and translational cardiovascular research. From that fledgling idea, the Delaware Cardiovascular Research Center (DCRC) was born. The Center will comprise a partnership among the University of Delaware, Thomas Jefferson University, Christiana Care Health System, and Nemours/A.I. duPont Hospital for Children.
Mission
The mission of the Center is to improve understanding of the complex nature of diseases of the heart, blood and blood vessels; to implement translational strategies to improve cardiovascular health in Delaware and beyond; and to develop strong educational programs to attract and prepare the next generation of scientists for this important field.
To achieve this mission, the DCRC will assemble an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers and clinicians whose basic and translational research in cardiovascular function and pathophysiology will be augmented by strong support in bioinformatics, biostatistics, molecular biology, genomics and proteomics. This approach is in alignment with the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Roadmap for Medical Research.
